The Road to AfroTech

Alexcia Lewis

This time of year, the anticipation for the return of pumpkin spice lattes, Harry Potter marathons, and some much-needed PTO is building. For black techies and founders, the annual AfroTech Conference produces a different type of excitement. For minority folks, taking the journey through historically white spaces such as Silicon Valley can be daunting without spaces where we can just let our knotless braids hang and our melanin glow without apology.

AfroTech founders created the largest Black tech community built on intellectual exchange and authentic networking. AfroTech is a series of experiences throughout the year aiming to bring Black and brown engineers, VCs, founders, corporations, executives and employees together—ranging from new entrants to veterans. This event highlights Black excellence and creativity while challenging the attitude that assimilation is required for success.

Hotwire Global is touching down in ATX for this year’s conference that will focus on tech trends including Web3, NFTs, cryptocurrency and how music is shaping them for the future. We chose to partner with AfroTech’s mission in elevating the valuable minds of underrepresented communities and inform our strategic efforts in supporting technology innovation. The responsibility of privilege is to first recognize that it exists which results in meaningful change, and Hotwire is continuing momentum behind our commitment to learn by first taking a seat, and there is no better event to do so.

Wanna ride along? Hotwire invites you on the road to AfroTech 2022 with our team. Watch our socials where you’ll see our team preparing to sit, learn, and empower the culture.
